Paul Wolter, Executive Director of the Sauk County Historical Society, gave a presentation on the history of tourism in Sauk County. Wolter revealed that Sauk County has four state parks and four National Historic Landmarks along with many other historical sites, museums, and points of interest.

The Sauk County Institute of Leadership (SCIL) kicked off its seventh of nine sessions last week by visiting the Sauk County Law Enforcement Center. There the group met Captain Lewis Lange, Sauk County Jail Administrator. During a tour of the facility, Captain Lange discussed the struggles in recruiting and retaining staff, mental health of officers and inmates, the impact of drugs in the community and simply trying to connect with citizens.

November SCIL Day Adds Color to the Picture of Cultural Awareness
DELLONA TOWNSHIP, WI – The November meeting of the Sauk County Institute of Leadership (SCIL) met in the Dellona Town Hall on November 10, 2022, to have a look at diversity and cultural awareness. Led by SCIL facilitator Morgan McArthur, the group was encouraged to look beyond their previous understanding of diversity and to explore their attitudes and biases.

Morgan has been busy this summer planning for new venues, panels, and program sessions, as we continue to find the balance in programming between leadership and community development. Along the way in the planning, Morgan conducted a deep dive into answering the question, “What allows room for an individual to be “activated” by the program? While also considering, “what makes an individual do the deep personal work?”, which more often than not sparks growth in leadership skills.

Since 2005, the Sauk County Institute of Leadership (SCIL) has presented the Sauk County Leadership Award to a resident or organization that has exhibited exemplary communication skills and the ability to empower and motivate others.

Early Bird Deadline Approaches
The deadline to apply to receive the early bird discount of May 1 is approaching quickly! Final applications must be submitted by June 1. SCIL seeks out participants that bring diverse perspectives and experiences that help inform and enhance the program. All applicants are reviewed by the SCIL Board of Directors at their June board meeting.

CREATIVITY IS POSSIBILITY
SCIL gathered in Spring Green for the seventh monthly session of the program. The day included a tour of the American Players Theatre (APT) followed by group discussions at the Spring Green Community Library. The session focused on the roles of creativity in leadership and the importance of cultivating emotional intelligence.
