Finding Inspiration at White Mound County Park

Hill Point, Wisconsin; April 14, 2022 – On April 14, Sauk County Institute of Leadership (SCIL) 2021-2022 members gathered together at the White Mound County Park to explore the topic of Leadership in Nature versus Natural Leadership.

Paul Wolter, Executive Director of the Sauk County Historical Society,  dove into the history and significance that Sauk County has had on tourism in many ways. From Agritourism, Ecotourism, Leisure Tourism all the way to Eno Tourism, Sauk County draws millions of visitors each year. He highlighted the growth in tourism while also stressing the importance of maintaining the culture and beauty that made Sauk County what it is today.

Serge Koenig, Conservation Technician with Sauk County Land Resources and Environment, presented to the group on “Why Farmers Matter.”  Serge gave us the inside look at how farmers interacting with the land and environment have a direct impact on everyone and everything around them.  We were shown a decisive example of change leadership happening right before us with the programs he offers to farmers that protect their lifestyle,  while also protecting the environment around us.

BJ Ganem of the Sierra Delta Project addressed the group on change, transformation and organizational culture. He spoke from his experience as a veteran and how a service dog can make a positive impact on a veteran.  He also discussed the hurdles that the organization has faced with providing sufficient service dogs to veterans.

The next SCIL session is scheduled for May at the Wormfarm Institute in Reedsburg.
