Extension Retention Zoom
A note to Alumni:
We started the Extension Retention Zoom sessions with our Class of 2023 cohort as a way to discuss practical applications of leadership concepts, half-way between the in-person sessions. In 2024, we started inviting guest speakers.
November 21, 2024: noon - 1 PM
Languages of Appreciation
Join us on Thursday, November 21st from 12-1 pm. This one-hour session will summarize the work of Gary Chapman and Paul White in their book "The Five Languages of Appreciation in the Workplace" and should give you not only insights about your own preferences but also how to positively affect those that you lead.
Please take and score the self-assessment before the Extension Retention Zoom call.
What It's About
Leadership works best when it's a pull, not a push. The pull will come from people wanting to follow us and our ideas. How do we 'get' them to do that? ("How do I motivate people?") Psychologist William James said "The deepest principle in human nature is the craving to be appreciated."
If that's true, as leaders we can use that principle to our good advantage. Offer appreciation and motivate people. Simple, right?
In SCIL we have already felt the magic and power of connecting with each other on a deeper level. What if we understood that different people prefer different ways of experiencing appreciation?
Much like our Real Colors assessment, there are (five) general categories of appreciation that people prefer and if we understand those categories and match our gestures of appreciation to their preferences, the positive impact will be much more profound.
