SCIL Activates People to see themselves and their County in New Ways

On Tuesday, May 17, the SCIL cohort and their fearless leader Morgan McArthur kicked-off their celebratory evening by presenting to the Sauk County Board of Supervisors.

The class nominated Pastor Antowan Hallmon Senior of Faithworks Ministries to speak about his experience on behalf of the class. He touched on some of the interpersonal skills learned in the class, including question asking techniques, conflict resolution, self-reflection, and how to dig for clues to prolong a conversation and get more information. And, he talked about how the SCIL program has taught him and inspired him to:

  • BE - who he is to be in the community

  • DO - what he is supposed to do in the community

  • HAVE - what he is to have in the Community

  • GIVE - what he is supposed to give to the community.

One of the unique aspects of the SCIL program is that we intentionally move the “SCIL days” around various aspects of the county. As a result of this, Antowan noted that he learned more about the history, resilience, and beauty of Sauk County, as well as being introduced to new places.

Morgan McArthur, SCIL Facilitator, noted in his remarks to the County Board that SCIL was born out of former extension educator Greg Wise’s vision that in order to get some of the economic development projects completed, the county simply needed leaders to move them forward. SCIL is now an intensive program that meets for one full day each month, touching on leadership and community topics and themes.

After celebrating Antowan’s experience, and the Staff of the Sauk County Health Department’s leadership award, Morgan noted to the county board:

SCIL activates people to see themselves and their county in new ways and we strive to make Sauk County a better place - one leader at a time.
