If you missed part one of our Alumni Impact Survey Results, you can catch up here.

In this post, we share some of the responses to the question:

In your opinion, what changes in your leadership style or skills

do you attribute to the SCIL Program?

  • “I speak up confidently, I am a much better listener, I have brought play to my leadership roles.”

  • “Just be open to new experiences – embrace every opportunity, even the ones that seem out of your comfort zone, growth comes from taking on challenges.”

  • “I attribute MOST of my new found leadership skills to SCIL. Before SCIL I would not have considered myself a leader. I was timid and unwilling to step in or rock the boat. Because of SCIL, I've become more confident, outgoing, willing to jump in/assist/volunteer, and understanding. I have applied learned skills in my workplace, home and community. Not to mention the connections made during the SCIL program have blossomed! I recommend the program often.”

  • Increased self awareness as well as better understanding of others. Learning that vulnerability is not a bad thing. Better communication. I am a work in progress but the skills I learned in SCIL are used frequently and I quite often look back to some of the lessons for guidance in my decision making.

  • “I have pushed myself to do more and do better in my community and at work, to be uncomfortable and grow personally and professionally. I am (a little) less afraid of failure and have been trying push myself more, this can still be a struggle.”

  • “SCIL gave me more confidence in my innate leadership style. I better understand and value what I have to offer my community. I have grown in self-acceptance and self-love as a result of participating in SCIL, and these qualities are the bedrock of a satisfying life.”

  • “Real Colors was mind blowing and life changing for me. I better understand myself and how I relate to others. In applying the lessons I learned at SCIL, my relationship with one of my most challenging employees at the time improved drastically. We have both moved on from that company, but we remain strong professional contacts for one another and friends to this day!”

  • “Increased empathy and understanding of how others can see things differently. Results and loyalty don't come from fear and intimidation but rather trust and respect.”

  • “SCIL was transformative in how I understand the people in our county. It really opened my eyes to the diverse experiences and perspectives that exist within our community. We explored the challenges and opportunities faced by different groups, and learned how to listen more effectively to their concerns. This has given me a much deeper appreciation for the needs of everyone in our county and helps me approach service with greater empathy and understanding.”
