Sauk County Institute of Leadership Explores “Leading Between the Lines”

Sauk County, Wis., October 9, 2025 — The Sauk County Institute of Leadership (SCIL) hosted its October session, “Leading Between the Lines,” on Thursday, October 9, bringing together emerging and established leaders from across the county for a day focused on connection, communication, and collaboration.

The morning began at 6:8 in Sauk City, where participants were welcomed by Morgan McArthur, UW–Extension Sauk County, and John Ramthun of 6:8 with the session “When Leadership Comes Calling.” Attendees also toured the Sauk Prairie Food Pantry, guided by Kris Ballweg, who shared how local volunteers lead through service and compassion.

The group then traveled to Compeer Financial in Prairie du Sac for an afternoon of interactive learning and inspiration. Highlights included “Let’s DO This!” presented by Fritz Wyttenbach of the Culver Community Park Project and Ellen Paul, community volunteer, followed by the lively “Speed Dating with County Department Heads.” Department leaders including Sheriff Chip Meister, Jessica Mijal (Human Services), Patrick Gavinski (Highway Commissioner), and Quinn Hause (Aging & Disability Resource Center) shared updates on key county initiatives and challenges.

“SCIL continues to create opportunities for connection that strengthen leadership across Sauk County,” said Morgan McArthur, SCIL Program Facilitator. “Each session is designed to help participants discover new ways to engage, listen, and lead within their communities.”

Lunch, catered by C2 Juicery, offered a healthy break before afternoon sessions on leadership and collaboration. Presentations included “Leadership Secret Sauce” with Jenny Erickson of UW–Madison, “Lead & Succeed: You Can’t Do It Without a Connect-Work” with McArthur, and “Unlock Your Leadership with the Key of Connection” featuring Cliff Thompson, retired Superintendent of the Sauk Prairie School District.

The session concluded with an After Action Review and reflection, allowing participants to share insights on how authentic relationships and effective communication drive successful leadership.

The 2025–2026 SCIL program is made possible through the generous support of its presenting sponsor, Ho-Chunk Gaming Wisconsin Dells.
