SCIL Day: Exploring Sauk County Law Enforcement

The March session of the 2025 Sauk County Institute of Leadership (SCIL) was spent in Baraboo, WI.  The day began with Sheriff Chip Meister welcoming us to the Sauk County Law Enforcement Center.  The Sheriff praised his colleagues and described how they function as a team to achieve their goal to enforce the law with integrity, fairness and respect. Sheriff Chip passed the torch to Jail Administrator, Captain Nicole Schlough. Captain Schlough shared her leadership journey which includes responsibility for nearly 200 people including both staff and inmates. Read more about the March SCIL Day here.

We asked our SCIL participants the most valuable portion of the day. Here’s what they had to say:

• Can’t choose! Really loved the jail, Badger stories, and Mayor Nelson

• The opportunity to address conflict in a variety of environments/subjects and ways to reach consensus. Thank you for bringing in Curt and Mike! Such an inspiring story and work that is still happening today

• Discussions on local government and how to get involved. Also, great to hear from Mayor Rob. His honest approach to how he presents is refreshing.
